I think a better system would be to randomize the chance of crafting a high quality item or perhaps for consumables; increase the chance of crafting more than one item at a time. At least with this system players are not subjected to crafting worthless gear that will be trash or vendor. Of course, the non-high quality items would be worth less in the market due to many players trying to craft high quality gear, but at the very least non-HQ gear is usable because the right stats are still present.
Ultimately, I wish MMO developers would do away with the randomness of crafted stats on gear. Just allow crafters choose which stats they wish to implement on gear and have their crafting skill determine the amount of stats they can place on gear or increase the chance that they could receive an HQ item. Either way just don't make it so half the gear created in the game is useless and trashed. At least make it to where they're somewhat desirable.
