As Sun tzu once said, the outcomes of battles are determined before the fight begins. This is true when it comes to pking. The element of surprise and firsthand knowledge of your opponents is a vast advantage, one that can easily cause a person to win the battle. A red pker(s) are most likely to win their battles, especially when they usually pick their battles. So what are the disadvantages of being a pk? Ultimately there aren’t many. Sure you can be attacked on sight, however; pker’s don’t venture out to pve they venture out in groups with the mindset of attacking players who are at a disadvantage.
So besides KoS (kill on sight), is there a disadvantage to being a red? No. In fact due to the lack of consequences you have all the advantages in the world of being a pk. You fight on your own terms, you reap all the rewards after killing your prey, and the only minor setback is the potential of being killed on sight. In some games you may not be able to enter cities but there are plenty of ways to circumvent this such as creating an alt.
Perhaps there needs to be some consequences of being a pk. If there are no consequences then what’s to stop the pk population from growing? What’s to stop neutral players from preying on others simple because they see an opportunity to kill for loot? Like in the real world people don’t cause harm to others because (aside from having morals and virtues) many are afraid of the consequences.
I think pks should have more consequences of just being red and attackable. I believe pks, once caught should experience jail time or perhaps even stat loss. There needs to be something to reduce the likely hood of all players’ even neutral players from turning over to the dark-side. This wouldn’t destroy the pk population but it would certainly curtail it, leaving it to only those who are willing to take the risk of being a true pk.
